Question Dentist from you know where!! anyone else ever been through something like this?

I went to my regular dentist a couple of weeks ago with a tooth that had busted apart and the filling was exposed. The air made it hurt something awlful, but he wouldn't pull it the x-rays showed the roots to be in very good condition.I couldn't afford to have a root canal, and a crown.I went to another dentist and had him pull it instead I was in too much pain to wait.He did x-rays also.I got the normal shots and he started to pull it after about 30 minutes of waiting for the shot to numb my mouth,as soon as he started he scared me half to death. He pulled me almost a foot out of the chair,he told his assistant to restrain me,I grabed his hand and told him no it felt like he was going to break my jaw.I know he didn't like this, but I couldn't handle the pain.He pryed under the gum for about 10 minutes and then said it hadn't moved at all. Then he tells me he's going to have to break the tooth and removed it a piece at a time.I thought anything is better than this,so after he drills the tooth into peices he's pulling so hard I thought when this tooth comes out he's going to slip and hit me,sure enough he did and busted my lip along with hitting my row of top teeth that was not numb.I stopped him several times,it felt like my jawbone was coming apart. He never ask if I was okay or say he was sorry,it took a total of 2 and a half hours to pull this tooth,my lip bleed until after 1:00 a.m. He gave me 10 Lortab 5 which really didn't help much, part of the root was broke off in my gum which he didn't mention I discovered this when the bleeding in my gums stopped.I've had chucks of flesh come out of this with peices of I guess my tooth still in it.I know this sounds gross, sorry about that, but this was a true nightmare.I had 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled and never had any type of pain, when he finished he said no wonder it was so hard to get out there was like a hook on the root, this is the only part of the root he got out the rest is still in my gums.He cut my gum all the way down under my tongue, guess that's why I bleed so long.Anyone else ever been through something like this,I think I should have been put to sleep for this I will never go back to him.I'll stick with my good ol' dentist that don't hurt me~!

Hi mom2- I too had an awful experience years ago with a Dentist. I was referred to this guy from a co- worker. Big mistake.....he was awful. I needed a root canal because I had an abcess and the tooth was bad. I had a root canal done a couple years prior (another Dentist did it) which was also abcessed. The first Dentist let the tooth drain for about a week before sealing up the roots and also had me on antibiotics. Well this guy did the whole thing in one visit. I explained to him that my last Dentist had me on the antibiotics and let the tooth drain and suggested the same for this tooth. He claimed he knew what he was doing and said he flushed out the tooth and it was fine to go ahead and seal it. I insisted that this tooth was infected and that I felt it should be left to drain and a course of antibiotics administered, he refused. At that time I should have jumped out of that chair and left for another Dentist office. However I was young at the time and didnt speak up for myself. So I sat there and let him finish. Later that evening after the numbing started wearing off I began to get the most awful throbbing pain, it started in the tooth and moved way up the side of my face into my ear. It was the worse pain I have ever felt in my life!! My face was so swollen and it hurt so bad I couldnt take it anymore. I called my mother crying at midnight saying I couldnt take the pain asking her what to do. Well she got right on that phone and woke that guys butt up and said we need you to meet us at your office NOW my daughter is in severe pain. He was really annoyed with my mother for disturbing him, telling her to have me take a couple aspirin and to call in the morning but my mother wouldnt take NO for an answer!!! Needless to say at 1am my mother came and got me and drove me to his office. He ended up opening the tooth back up and when he did so much gunk spilled out of it and immediatly the pressure let up.... however I was left with one nasty infection that took 3 weeks worth of antibiotics. I ended up going to another Dentist to finish the root canal, I did not want this guy touching my teeth again. When I received his bill in the mail I called and refused to pay for that 1am office visit. I exlained none of this would have happened if he would have just listened to me in the first place. I think thats the problem with alot of Dentists and Doctors they dont listen to the patient. They always think they know whats best and alot of times end up causing much more pain and suffering. He never did get his money for that office visit and he never pursued coming after me for it. As a matter of fact I told my story to many people and would NEVER refer anyone to this guy! In your case I would call that office up and complain about how you were treated, you should not be expected to go through something like that. That Dentist should have realized that particular tooth was difficult. In my opinion he should have referred you to an oral specialist who could have given you better sedation and extracted that tooth painlessly! I would refuse payment and let him know your disatisfaction with how he handled your procedure.

Hello to make my story short, I myself went through alot.
from 2001 - early 2002.
I went through 7 diff Dentist. BAD! All Root C ended up bad and I had to get it pulled. In the mean time No one believed me that I was in pain.
This one Endo did a bad job he was really mean.
I spent over $5000 for nothing. I used up my Dental for that year.
One DR I went to charged me for the Root C he never finished. I had to tell my ins people and they had to invetigate and all.. sure enough I was right... I got a check in the mail.
I now found a nice Dr. Who is not into all the hightech things and not after $. He cares and listens.
I really like him..
Once you find a good one keep em cuz
After what I went through I see what's out there. It sad I'm sure there's lots of Dr who is out there are nice but people who is not good give them a bad name.
Anyway thanks for reading.

Finally I can post again, that's why I just put in HI,I haven't been able to post some error pops up.Anyway I went back Tuesday I had a dry socket, talk about painful, well today is Friday,it's no better.I really think I may have some jawbone damage I'm still swelled really bad and having alot of pain that goes from the the back of my jawbone and goes all the way down into the middle of my chin. It's been a week you'd think I'd be better by now.I seen a different dentist with the dry socket I was lucky the one that pulled my tooth was on vacation. The assitance told me please not to tell them, but she really felt like I should report him, that he really was too rough with me.She also said he gets nervous alot and rushes through his work alot. She said that I done better than she would that if it was her she would have left.I have even thought about talking to a lawyer, having children wasn't this bad.
