Every six month I have my teeth cleaned. Once a year my dentist takes routine full mouth X-rays of my teeth. Usually everything is fine. My question is: Is it customary for a dentist to X-ray your whole mouth once a year? I find it is unnecessary exposure to X-rays plus extra costs.
My dentist also does a full mouth xray yearly. I think this is pretty customary. I guess they are looking for any potential decay. Maybe if you said you didn't want one, they'd be fine with that.
they should take a full mouth set (18 radiographs) about every 4 years, and bitewings (about 4 radiographs) every 6 mo to a year. i would ask him not to take too many more than that.
