Part of wisdom tooth left after removal?

I had my wisdom tooth removed on Thursday. Today I am having pain and there seems to be a piece of tooth sticking out of the side of my gums. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Part of wisdom tooth left after removal?

Hi there...

I have 2 things in response to this.
1st, I had a molar pulled. And a few weeks after the swelling went down, I would have atooth fragments come up out of the gums. They weren't painful and I could just pull them out.
2nd. I had my wisdom teeth out - all 4 at the same time about 10 yrs ago. 4 yrs ago when I found out I needed a root canal done, he said there was part of my wisdom tooth root left. Which I just had cut out when they pulled the last molar out (it had broken). I couldn't feel it or see it - nothing like that. It just showed up on x-ray. However, thinking back, I had gotten a really nasty infection which made my neck swell and now I wonder if it's b/c of the root being left in like that.

So it could be a piece of tooth, which isn't connected to anything. It's just making its way out. Try to leave it for a little longer until swelling goes down and evaluate it from there!

Thanks for the response! I think I will wait a few more days and see what happens.
