Post My toungue is totally ruining my life! Please Please sum1 help!!!

Well put str8 i seem to have bad breath. Im in my young 20's and I dont drink, smoke eat hardly any foods that will make my breath smell!
My oral hygene is very good I been to the dentist more than once about this and he sais my teeth are fine. Been to the doc few times about this but he sais mouth looks ok and nothing wrong there. Been to the Ear Nose Throat (ENT) doctor but he sais evrythings ok!
Now when ever I lick my wrist with the back of my toungue and smell it the smell is awful and a way doctors tell you to see if you got bad breath for yourself is to lick your own wrist and smell.

Thing is my toungue is always whitish and I can never get it away, even if after quite a bit of brushing it it gets sum of it away the stink on my toungue always remains.
I used so many oral products to clean my mouth i brushed flossed brushed and scraped toungue used mouthwash, left my mouth for while to see what it was naturally but still the smell remains.

I also seem to get this slightish bad smell whenever I breathe in through my right nostril although I have to push my nostril in with my finger to smell it!

How can I be helped where can I go my life is a total total utter mess with this problem! Ive never had a gf, I never even kissed a girl and its soooo hard to deal with especially when all your friends are doing stuff with girls. Ive been denied this right!

Can ne1 help???

Wow...I am so sorry. the first thing that came to my mind was your sinuses. When I've had sinus infections I caould actually smell my nose and it was a foul odor. But you've been to an ENT. The only other thing I can think of is I read somewhere about mouthwashes actually making bad breath worse because they dry your mouth or something like that...breath mints too. I wish I had more to add. Hopefully some one here has a clue. Good luck.

Matt,

have you read my previous posts? i suffer from the EXACT same problem. I am still searching for an answer. Have no idea how to get rid of the PUTRID EMBARRASING LIFE CHANGING smell! It upsets me and like only you would know.

Do people sometimes find you "weird" because you fade into the background at social events, or sometimes do not even talk-due to the embarresment it will cause you when you open your mouth?

Hi, You should look to solve your coated tongue, and maybe your bad breath by looking for problems else where in your body. Maybe food you eat or don't eat, intake of liquids? I think this is just a symptom (sp)outcome you are seeing.

Back when I was not eating what I do now, I allways had a coated tongue, a temp. fix was to brush it untill it is pink.

I have a white film on my tongue that I need use toothbrush for to remove at times still. I also wake up to very parched mouth and choking. Once when whitish film was very bad on my tongue I went to local doctor that gave me yeast pills to take. I was quite confused as they were feminine pills and I was male and I thought only females have those issues. I researched on web and found another name linked to it called Thrush. But was related to aids and auto immune disorders. Was enough to scare me take an aids test which seemed improbable unless my parents secretly had it. I still have it I guess I should go back to doc but not too confident get much results. Perhaps you should research yeast on tongue, thrush on net to exclude it or collect info for doctor visit.

Hi mattiscool2002,

The problem most likely begins with your sinuses. The sinuses can cause the most horrific stench! Thankfully, this is easily remedied by washing the sinuses, generally called nasal irrigation, which can be done using something called a Neti Pot. This item may either be purchased from your local health food store or online (just perform a search for "Neti Pot" and you'll find many different places selling them). They cost around $20.

It's a porcelain thing that looks like a small teapot, and holds about a cup of water. You warm the water and put in some salt (the directions tell you exactly how much salt), then tilt your head to one side and put the spout in your top nostril. The warm water will go in the top nostril and come out the bottom one. It's a weird feeling at first and does take some practice, but it has greatly reduced my sinus headaches, face pressure, and that awful smell is GONE. The instructions are very detailed, including pictures.

I hope this is useful information for you and I wish you freedom from your breath problem.

Well if u ever get close to someone when ur speaking it really is not nice cos I have to try and turn away and therefore lose eye contact and that all has effects on what people think about you. Kissing is something I just categorically can not do and I want to I want to I want to!! I dont get close to ne1 because of this!!

Im going to try this Neti Pot thing and I pray pray pray it will help! I have this nasty taste on the back of my toungue all the time, all the time even after i brushed my teeth and my toungue, I want it to go so much I would give alot of money to the person who cured my breath problem! I hope I dont have 2 and this neti pot thing works if not my future is looking increasingly short!

Can anyone tell me that when your toungue is at rest what is the normal position it should take up in your mouth? i.e Should it be resting down or should it be touching the roof of your mouth?
Also how should it be when your asleep?

Thanks 4 ne help.

Hi extrablue,

Yes, I did have the white coating on my tongue. The sinuses are constantly draining into the throat, and some of the junk ends up collecting on the tongue. Nasal irrigation washes away the stuff that would otherwise hang around causing odor and white crud on the tongue. Daily sinus washing moves the mucus and dirt out, therefore eliminating the bacteria that would cause the odor.

Nasal irrigation is a common yoga practice, as it makes breathing easier. I don't have a problem with post nasal drip as long as I do the wash every day. Without it, I spend a great deal of the day clearing my throat. I'm a singer, and having a near-constant frog in my throat from post nasal drip is quite a drag. The problem is eliminated with the nasal washing.

I hope this helps.

Hi mattiscool2002,

I'm glad you're going to try washing your sinuses. I do believe it will resolve your breath problem. Please give it at least a week to work out all the old stuff hanging around in your sinus cavity, and try to do it twice a day. If you make it a part of your daily activities, you'll have less trouble with allergies as well.

My parents took me to a tongue specialist when I first had braces, because my orthodondist said my tongue needed to learn how not to push against my front teeth. The natural placement of the tongue while sleeping and awake is resting gently on the roof of your mouth (not pressing against your teeth), with your lips together, teeth apart. He had me do an exerise to get my tongue used to this placement, which was the same thing that little kids often do by making that tongue clicking sound. Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth, open and then snap the tongue back to the lower mouth. Try to resist the tongue snapping back, to give it a good stretch, and then release it. He had me do this for a couple minutes every day, and it really worked.

I hope this helps. Take care.
