Alternative to a bridge or implant for one molar? - Dental Health Message Board

Hello,

I have a problem w/ one tooth, one of my lower right molars second from back) . I have had root canals done and seen an endodontist and lately it is sore once again. I don't want to have an apicoectomy, nor do I want to get an implant if I have it pulled. Is there an alternative for one tooth? I don't want to have the space obvioulsy. Can i get some type of one tooth denture or something?

yes, my root canal wasnt done properly. ive had xrays. i need an apicoectomy (sp?). and that might not save the tooth , the tooth isnt in great shape from the work thats been done on it. i dont want to have a lot of work done and spend money and then it has to go anyway. i dont want a bridge as i hate to have to "ruin" the surrounding teeth and i dont want to go through having an implant. im phobic and rather pass on an implant. i just would like something easy, thats why i was thinking of a partial denture or something similiar.

For years and years and years I had a little one tooth partial that I lovingly
called my 'removable bridge' but I think its real name might be a nesbit
partial or slang term, a saddle partial. Then after a few of those years, I had
to have an identical appliance made for the opposite side of my mouth, then
a few years later, I had the original one tooth partial added on to, made into
a two tooth partial. They both served me very well for a LONG time.

Personally, I would never want a bridge...I would not want to *drill on* the surrounding teeth necessary to attach the bridge.

does your one tooth partial remain in your mouth most of the time? do you have to take it out and clean it?

Yes, it remained in my mouth at all times , removing only when
brushing my teeth.

Being removable, in my opinion, is a benefit...
makes it very easy to keep the partial clean. I used toothpaste
and my toothbrush. I have since read that toothpaste should not
be used on partials, but it never hurt mine in all those years.

Also, I have read that some dentists advise people to take out
the one tooth partials at night so there would be no chance
of swallowing....My dentist never mentioned that to me, but mine
were secure enough that they did not come out until I wanted them
to. Actually they were so functional, and so comfortable that I would
forget they were there.
