Dentures and gagging

Im going for my impressions today and I'm a little nervous. Does it make you gag when your doing this??? What about your top denture? How bad does it make you gag?? When Im brushing my tongue I tend to get the gag reflex really quick!!!

Re: Dentures and gagging

Good morning Hope4All.....I'm not going to lie to you...it's gonna make you gag!!!! Do you have a morning appt.? If you are bad to gag - you might consider not having too much in your stomach....it's not unbearable but it's a natural reflex that's going to happen and you can't control it...But you can do it!!! Just have a positive outlook about it...In a few months I will be facing it again!! The good thing is that it doesn't take long for them to do the impressions...and you want that good impression so the finished plate will fit as tight as possible...I'll be thinking about you....let me know how it goes, okay?

Lots of hugs,
Jackie

Re: Dentures and gagging

Hi Jackie!!

Well I'm done with my impressions, I stayed calm, focused on the dentist and breathed slow and deeply!!! I was able to control myself and didn't gag or freak out, took much control but I did it!!!

Will I have to get this done again???? This was for my 6month dentures after I'm healed I will get my permanent ones.

I wonder when I get them out if I can drive myself home? Im just have local anthestetic.

Thank you for all your support!!!

Re: Dentures and gagging

Hello Hope4All Congrats on having that behind you!! That's the key slow deep breaths...Are you getting another set of dentures when you heal? If so, you will probably have to have the impressions made again...because your gums will change quite a bit...you will definitely have some shrinkage and the size of these impressions probably won't be the right fit for the permanents. It's been 2 months for me...and my immediates are sooo loose that I was having to use an adhesive to hold them in...the bottoms are always loose, but the tops did fit tightly until about 1-2 weeks ago...I went in yesterday afternoon and my dentist put in a soft reline that has made them fit nice and tight again without adhesive...I go back in 6 weeks and he'll decide how much longer before we start the process for the perms...I told him yesterday that I was making it okay with these and I wanted to make sure the time was right before we took the next step...I want them to fit as good as possible...

I'm new at this...and I'm definitely learning as I go, but if I can help you in any way...please know that I'm here for you...

Jackie

Re: Dentures and gagging

Thanks Jackie,

I will be getting permanent teeth at 6months, this will just be my immediates. OMG, I really don't want to have to do that again...lol

I'm not sure how my bottoms will fit, they are leaving 4 teeth in the bottom (first thought only 2), so I don't know if a partial will be more secure than a full denture on the bottom. I will let you know!! I now have to make my appt to get my teeth pulled. I'm a little nervous but I'm sure I will be fine, anxiety is always worse than the actual procedure.

How long did it take for you to be out and about with your teeth??? My husband is going away in a few days and I'm not sure if I should go in before he leaves or wait until he gets back.
