Uncovering implants......how bad? - Dental Health Message Board

I'm having my implants uncovered next week. I'll just have a local
anesthetic whereas when the implants were placed I had general
anesthesia. IS there much involved in uncovering the implants and
placing the abuttments?

It's not that bad. I have 6 upper implants and was always awake for all my oral surgeries. It's definitely not as painful as placing the implants. You'll be sore but you won't swell or bruise. You might have some stiches, depending on how your implants are placed. I thought I'd panic, when I saw the healing abutments. You know, metal mouth; etc., but it wasn't that bad. I just call this my implant journey.....What sort of restoration will you be having? Root canals and fillings seem minor to me now....

How long has it been since you had your implants done?
How many implants have you had done upper? or lower?
What sort of restoration will you be having?

Hello SRT2, i had my implants uncovered in october of 05 under local anesthesia . I also needed an additional graft . I was a bit uncomfortable but i thinkit may have been from the graft. Anyway, my full mouth restoration is complete and it was worth every cent.

I have lower implants. The first 4 were placed seven months ago along with
a bone graft. I had three more placed 3 months ago. The doc decided to wait
and uncover them all at one time. I was sedated for the placement of the implants
but will just have local for the uncovering. I think I'm going to have an over-denture
but we are considering a full bridge attached to the implants as well. I had not thought
much about the abutments.
