Dentures & Chewing Gum

I was just wondering if anyone has any luck chewing gum with dentures. I had to get dentures at an early age due to structural damage of my jaw bone. I have had my dentures now about a year and usually have no problem. But the 1 thing I miss is chewing gum. If anyone has any experiences please let me know. Thanks and Have a great day.

Re: Dentures & Chewing Gum

The only gum I know of for denture wearers is FREEDENT gum. It does not stick to dentures.

Re: Dentures & Chewing Gum

I have tried freedent and it works well. I have heard people speak of a gum called biotene I think, I know it for dry mouth and I head others with dentures say it works well.

I think one of the biggest concerns is how well do your dentures fit and if you will run the risk of creating sore areas if they are the slightest bit loose and will rub on your gums.

Do you have full dentures and what do you consider a young age? I got mine at 35.

Re: Dentures & Chewing Gum

I am 31 and have had mine for about 10 Months. I used to chew Freedent, among other brands, and actually liked it. My fear is getting it stuck all over the teeth. Then I would be on here asking how to get it off of them.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I really appreciate the replies.

Re: Dentures & Chewing Gum

If you do get gum stuck on your dentures, pop them in the freezer for about 10 minutes then just flick the stuff off, it is much easier to get gooey and sticky stuff off when it is sort of solid. The brief time in the freezer will not hurt them.

Re: Dentures & Chewing Gum

Do you have ordinary dentures? There are also implant supported ones - you can chew any gum wearing them :-)
