Wisdom tooth removal..

Hi my boyfirend just got one of his wisdom teeth pulled out on Wenesday and the doctor really didnt tell him anything all. So we were wondering what can help the swelling go down and about how long before you can eat semi greasy things like a hamburger or something. I would call his dentist but he really doesnt seem like he cares or anything I guess I dont know how to describe it.
But anyway thank you for any help.

Re: Wisdom tooth removal..

well depending on how bad his teeth were impacted, if at all, because the harder of a time the dentist had getting them out it means they were prying and pulling more thus causing more swelling. my mouth was swelled up for like a week or so and it was kind of tender still for a while after the swelling went away, keep icing it and use the drugs prescribed

Re: Wisdom tooth removal..

Around the 3rd to 4th day, swelling is usually at it's worst. From there, it will begin to lessen each day. Do not use ice after the first 24 hours. Eat something before taking the pain medicine. Rinse with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Drink plenty of fluids, not carbonated beverages or alcohol. Brush and floss your teeth gently. Eat soft foods like Jell-O, pudding, mashed potatoes, soup,..., then gradually mix in other foods as your mouth begins to heal and the swelling goes down. There's no set time limit on when he can begin eating cheeseburgers and other greasy foods. Just whenever it feels comfortable to chew these foods enough. Usually about 2 weeks, sometimes longer depending on how he heals. Get plenty of rest.
