Wisdom Teeth -Extraction

I'm in New York( Westchester County) and I have to get my wisdom teeth out. I have 4- 2 of which( the top 2) have small teeth budding off the sides of them. The bottom 2 are laying on their side. II'm not sure if they are fully impacted, but they could be. I'm looking for a professional in New York to help me out with my situation. I'm a little concerned because I've heard many horror stories about tooth extraction( pains that came back in the middle of the night, dentists who left pieces of the tooth in the gum- which caused horrible pain later, etc.). Any suggestions regarding the professional to choose? Please let me know asap! I have to get them out shortly-like this week. Thanks, T.

Re: Wisdom Teeth -Extraction

I would go to a Specialist. I just had all four removed this past Feb. and haven't had any problems. No horror stories. I chose not to go completely under and didn't feel a thing.

I'm sure you will be fine!

Re: Wisdom Teeth -Extraction

Go to an experienced oral surgeon and get recommendations if you can. I had only one tooth removed (I don't believe in pulling teeth unless they are truly causing a problem), but it went well (so far, had it done yesterday) and the surgeon is amazing. If he really knows what he is doing, he can get those teeth out with the least amount of trauma to your jaw. Despite the fact my wisdom tooth was partially impacted under bone, he managed to get it out with no bone removal or drilling, and the whole process took minutes.
A regular dentist can take teeth out, but I prefer oral surgeons, as they are much more experienced, usually. I like mine a lot and so far I would go back to him for any future procedures I might need. (He's also good at giving shots. ^_^)

Re: Wisdom Teeth -Extraction

Hey Teren,

You should go to an experienced person. I had one tooth removed last week and my dentist was awesome, I didn't feel anything and I didn't have any kind of pain. I could eat very well and I am so glad I went there !

Good luck,

Honeypots

Re: Wisdom Teeth -Extraction

I had my top left Wisdom tooth extracted on Friday afternoon. I've had no pain to speak of since. It was touch and go as to whether it would be an easy extraction or whether I'd have to be cut and stitched, luckily it came out in about one minute if that Very simple and not much bleeding either.
This is my third one extracted the last two were many years ago and I couldn't remember how it felt. It didn't feel, apart from a little pressure and a few cracking noises, nothing. Just make sure you find a good oral surgeon and I'm sure you'll be be just fine
