During breakfast today part of my rear bottom tooth(whatever it's called)broke off and part of my filling there is jagged. Is there a filing technique or anything I could do myself to keep this from scraping my tongue?
By the way I have no dental insurance so this is why I ask.
You will need to go to your dentist and have the filling replaced. In the meantime, clean the tooth and then mold dental wax or othodontic wax over the tooth. This will help protect the tooth as well as keep your tongue from getting sore.
Sorry,I assumed that it was a filling because that's what happened on another tooth before, but actually there doesn't seem to be a filling causing the jabbing pain. It's actually just a cracked tooth.
So does the wax stay on even through eating and such or do I have to keep reapplying it? I was wondering if I could just try filing down the tooth a little somehow since I don't have dental coverage.
Doesn't matter. You need to go to the dentist and have the tooth fixed. If you don't get the tooth fixed, it could lead to more problems down the road.
You will need to replace the wax after you eat and brush your teeth. whatever you do, do not file down the tooth yourself. You can cause damage to the tooth by doing so.
Please get to the dentist ASAP to have it looked at and fixed.
That's what happened to me and now 2 years later I developed a bad infection/abscess that sent me to the ER, on tons of antibiotics, now am losing my tooth, need bone grafting and an implant/crown done. Yeah, I tend to learn things the hard way.
It's a nightmare....DON'T wait.
