| Re: Braces at 67?
Hi, Here is what happened to me this past 2 weeks. I had developed a gap between my two front teeth over about 6-7 years, it seemed to be getting bigger and bigger and one tooth was starting to look a bit sideways, very slight but odd to me. My dentist hygientist found pockets between my two front teeth, that we didn't know were there. She sent me to a periodontist and he did a surgery there to clean it out. (I do have periodontal disease but had never had surgery in the front) A week later my front tooth gap almost disappeared!
I already had made an appointment for invisalign braces on the top to fix that gap! Now I'm waiting to see if the gap comes back, I'm not sure what I'll do next.
I simply hadn't known there were pockets there or I'd have had the surgery done 6 years ago!
She can check herself if she has pockets. There are these little blue soft pointy things sold in the toothpaste section that are for cleaning your teeth. Get her some and ask her to see if she can find any pockets with them. The first time I did it I was just amazed. The point went in, and in some more, and some more, way up. It was a 6mm pocket, that is over 1/2 inch! The hygientist will do that too, only she uses a metal pointy tool to measure how deep they go. It isn't painful, just a little pressure. Good Luck, I bet the gap bothers her more than she admits.
