How is a crown removed?

Hi

I just had a crown put on a tooth and I did not like how it looks
and the dentist said they could redo it, my question is how do they remove
the old crown it does not have a post ? Is it a big deal, I am afraid to do it so I may just keep it...
you can see a little grey line ...but am afraid of the consequences ....can the tooth break or will the tooth come out when they pull it off? just being paranoid I hope ........
Maybe it is not a big deal...am I making it worse than it is ?
Thanks
Linda

Re: How is a crown removed?

Since it is new they may be able to just pop it off with a small little probe. If they are replacing it with a temp while a new one is made, they may just drill it down a bit to help loosen it and then pop it off. Do you know if temporary or permanent cement was used? Obviously temp cement or cement with vasoline in it lets the crown come off a bit easier. Other than a lot of pressure from the dentist pushing on the tooth it should not be painful. The tooth underneath is generally unharmed. I had 4 replaced once and really don't recall the experience as being awful or anytting like that.

Re: How is a crown removed?

Permenant cement. Your dentist will drill down the middle of the crown and just lever the crown in two. This will just crack the cement. They won't pull it off like an extraction. You will be fine.

Re: How is a crown removed?

I've had a few crowns redone, too.
I asked my dentist how take removes the old crown and he said that he "cuts it off."
