Xrays.....how often should you have them?

My dentist wants to take Xrays every time I visit ( every 6 months ). I am only going for a general cleaning every 6 months. I have had only 1 cavity in my whole life, I do have week gums but I floss regulary and that fixes the probem. The dentist also want to pull my wisdom teeth. My wisdom teeth are in great shape, just hard to clean by the dentist. I also had a complete gum scrape due to what they called wings with no bone loss and everything elts looks great. They want to do another deep gum scrape as a perventative. My teeth are fine and I only go every 6 months just for a general cleaning. Are Xrays every 6 months bad for you and are they needed when you have healthy teeth.........

The xrays of today are not high in radioactivityas they were many years ago. They usually do have you go through an xray for an exam. I have had four panaramics in the last two weeks as well as three direct xrays of selected teeth for a procedure.

Re: Xrays.....how often should you have them?

I get my x-ray once a year. I just went to dentist on Tuesday and my teeth and gum are looking good. When I go back in March 2007, I get my x-ray check and teeth cleaning.

Re: Xrays.....how often should you have them?

Thanks,

My 6 month cleaning is due and I now feel better. 1 Xray a year should be all they need unless there is a problem.

Thanks again for all the information............................. .. :-)

Re: Xrays.....how often should you have them?

Hello all,

I have another question about x-rays. My insurance will only pay for the full set every 3 years. If I change dentist or move can I ask to take them with me? Will my old dentist give me a copy? Do I have to pay for a copy?
