Reducing cost of dental treatment

New to the board and wanted to pose a qs to its members. I notice that there are many patients here that complain about the cost of dental treatment and this is no surprise when a single crown can cost anywhere in the region of $500 to $1000.

My question is this - would you buy your dental treatment including products, such as crowns, bridges and dentures directly on the internet to make cost savings? And would you use the internet to compare dentists and 'shop around' for the most cost effective dental treatment?

I am surprised that in the age of the internet this is not yet possible!

Chris.

Re: Reducing cost of dental treatment

Not exactly sure what you're asking but, you can already look at dentist's websites and see some information about their practice, and I imagine some have pricing for those services. That may not be what you are referring to.

What may be an option is this; it's like an discount plans for dental work, you can sign up for it online. I checked into it for a family member. Sorry, I don't think I'm allowed to put a link for them here. There are several, and thru reputable companies. There were actually several dentists in our town who participated in the plan. You pay a yearly fee, and for that you recieve a discount on dental services of all kinds. I felt it was very worth it myself. Prices around $100 year per person. They vary by company.

For instance on one was for an Adult Cleaning, usual: $75, plan: $39
Root Canal, Molar usual: $829, plan: $492

That name was with a large national well known insurance company.

That's just an example of 2 things, there are lots more. Even dentures. Some, I think Braces.

I have such a phobia about keeping my teeth, I'd probably look into anything to afford to keep my teeth healthy. But dental work is so expensive, a lot of people cannot afford it.

You can just do a search online for dental insurance plans and find quite a few. Wouldn't hurt to check into them.
