I have been putting this off for 2 yrs & finally made an appt for next week. Can the root canal be done in 2 or 3 appt's or do they do the temporary crown & everything in one sitting? I much prefer if they would do as little as possible each time & let me recover from that procedure b/4 starting something else. I am a senior & have a problem with chemical allergies so I am not looking for to it. Thanks.

I recently had a root canal done. It was done in two appointments and we are waiting for insurance to kick in to do the crown (I just got dental insurance and root canal was covered right away, but there is a 6 month waiting period for a crown).

I went to an endodontist for the root canal and then followed up with my regular dentist or prosthedontist for the crown.

The prepping for a crown where they file down the tooth structure can take a long time depending on the size of the tooth - so discuss it with your dentist. He may not want to start the root canal until a temp has been fitted first which can take a while as well. Some dentist actually prefer to do the root canal first since all it requires is a filling afterwards and then followup with the crown which can take several appts.

I hear people hear talking about temp crown.
I recently had 2 root canals done. (which used all insurance money) now i am free of infection but, left with 2 holes in teeth. The temp filling that was incerted has totally been gone, less then 2 months after.
what would my next step be? was a temp crown supposed to be included in the cost of root canal ( $750.00)
