Two Questions

I have just had 2 filling put in (silver), They are sensitive to cold, and they kind of hurt when I chew with them. I am worried, because they were debating whether it was a root canal or just a deep filling. They decided that once they drilled in, that it had not infected the root yet, so they did a big filling. I just wanted to know what I should be worrying about.

Second one is: I have a sore in my mouth that formed after the dental appointment. I am pretty sure it is from them holding an instrument to it, but it stings. Do you guys know of anything to keep it from hurting.

Thank you so much for your help ^_^

Re: Two Questions

Drilling traumatizes a tooth - the larger the filling the more the trauma - so the tooth will probably need several days to a couple of weeks to settle down. Some OTC anti-inflamatory or pain reliever may help it. If it does not calm down after 10 days or so then you should return to the dentist to see if the nerve has been damaged. Sometimes teeth with larger fillings always remain a bit sensitive so its up to you and your dentist to determine how much is too much and if a crown might not be better. Also there are some OTC oral products that help heal gum and mouth irritaitionss that can be applied or swabbed on directly to the sore - like ora-gel or Oral B - that may help - or just rinsing with warm water mixed with salt will help it heal quicker.
