Hi, you did not indicate which surface of your gum the lump is on! This may be a stretch but if you had teeth on either side of where this lump is, this just might be healed stable bone and the areas on either side of it are becoming depressed from the tooth extraction. Mouth pain is funny stuff, it may hurt in one spot but the pain is coming from somewhere else.
As far as chewing etc, practice practice practice- wearing the dentures is the only way your mouth will become accustomed to having them in there. Do report any sore areas to the dentist right away and get them adjusted. Take small bites and try to distribute the food evenly on both sides of your mouth so the dentures don't tip. Keep water on hand to help get the food down too.
