new denture's - Dental Health Message Board

I'am having doubt's about the upper & lower plate idea, it seem's as though I have COMPLETE MOUTHFULL without food, trying to eat has proven to be a big job not mention very painful..... I was also wondering if anybody out there has experianced what I can only describe as a LARGE PAINFUL SHARP LUMP on the side of my upper gum where i dint even have teeth for a good 20 years. I had all my teeth pulled on Dec 16,06 is it to soon to say? that's what my dentist keep's telling me .............please somebody must have an answer..thank you

It sounds like it is bone spurs. I had one in a spot where I hadn't had a tooth in quite some time. It didn't make much sense to me. LOL! You might try chewing gum without your dentures. Sometimes that helps get the piece of bone out. Are you using adhesive? Sometimes that helps too. I couldn't eat anything until I was able to use the adhesive. I started using it about 14 days after I had me teeth pulled. I know it is not easy getting used to dentures. If you have any questions, I will be glad to help if I can! Good luck!

Hi, you did not indicate which surface of your gum the lump is on! This may be a stretch but if you had teeth on either side of where this lump is, this just might be healed stable bone and the areas on either side of it are becoming depressed from the tooth extraction. Mouth pain is funny stuff, it may hurt in one spot but the pain is coming from somewhere else.

As far as chewing etc, practice practice practice- wearing the dentures is the only way your mouth will become accustomed to having them in there. Do report any sore areas to the dentist right away and get them adjusted. Take small bites and try to distribute the food evenly on both sides of your mouth so the dentures don't tip. Keep water on hand to help get the food down too.
