Gum Swelling Question - Dental Health Message Board

Since mid January or so I have had an area of swollen gums on the upper right side of my mouth. It was actually almost gone, but now today I discovered that it is back again. My grandmother went into the hospital a couple days ago, and I'm thinking the stress caused by that may have something to do with it. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I go in to the dentist, or mabye give it some time to go back down again?

My gums are aching and it comes and goes so I am thinking that a dental visit is needed as with you. I don't think stress brings on swollen gums, at least I haven't heard of that. However, I am petrified of going to a dentist. I just don't know what to do.

you need to go and see the dentist i understand you may be scared but they are there to help you. swollen gums are not brought on by stress and there is always an underlying reason of why this is happening ie: perio disease.

Thanks for the replies but now I'm really confused. Friday afternoon the swelling was almost completly gone (you could even see where the puss had drained out of it) and now it's back. Is this some kind of infection or abscess?

if there is puss coming out it is definately an abscess you need antibiotics to treat this and also root canal treatment.
