Tooth Discoloration - Dental Health Message Board

Just recently my doctor prescribed Augmentin for me, and two days later I woke up and saw that my two front teeth are discolored

On the bottom half of my two front teeth, they are extremely white, but then on the top half they are a normal color. I have tried brushing them and using mouthwash and everything. I'm beginning to wonder if my teeth will ever be back to their normal color. I'm also not sure if this is a side effect from the Augmentin. Is this very common? I have tried searching on the internet, but I have been unable to find anything similar to what I have.
Could someone please tell me what I should do about this? Should I see my doctor or my dentist? Will my teeth stay like that permanently?

I would call my doctor and ask him if this could be caused by the med.

Or search the web for side affects of the drug - sometimes drs only know the major or common side affects of certain drugs. If possbile find out the name of the manufacturer or pharmaceutical co - also generics can sometimes produce different side affects for some poeple as well.

You could also check with your Pharmacist. They seem to know more about side effects of drugs than some doctors.

This medicine may cause temporary staining of the teeth. Proper brushing will usually remove any staining and may prevent it from occurring.

I would think any antibiotic can cause problems with color of teeth.
