Can Veneers or Lumineers CoverReceding Gumline?

Can veeners or lumineers be used to cover a receding gumline, instead of having gum grafts? Or, can bonding be used?

thanks.

Funny, I was wondering the same thing. I hope someone responds. I am not sure. How about a cap?

There is something called a Gingival Mask that you could research. Basically it is artificial gums that slip over your teeth. I cannot tell you whether or not lumineers can cover the receding gumline. The tooth will still look very long. With the gingival mask the gum line looks normal. Or you could have gingival grafts. Where they take tissue off the roof of your mouth and graft it to your gums. One is a real fix one is a cover-up.

Re: Can Veneers or Lumineers CoverReceding Gumline?

My dentist suggested filling in my tooth with bonding where the gum has raised up due to me brushing to hard. I thought he was crazy and was trying to make a few bucks. They actually fill it with the stuff they use for fillings. They'd have to rough that part of the tooth up before applying the filling. /shivers. I know they will numb ya but after it wears off how bad will the pain be?

How about a crown? Can they do that?

My problem is minor and from brushing too hard, says the dentist.

I will research gingival mask.

I like the idea of the bonding substance being place on my teeth.

Hi Almond Joy......I had receeding gum lines from brushing
too hard and flossing too hard. My dentist bonded those areas
and they look great. There is no pain at all involved in bonding. And believe me i hate dentists and have no tolerance for pain! The tooth is roughed up a little and they
apply the bonding material and the little blue light and you
are good to go......i am very happy with mine and if you have
any insurance....they will cover the bonding because it prevents exposure of the the root of the tooth where decay can set in and it is not cosmetic....Karen

Yeah, just bonding filler should work fine! I have about 6 teeth that need to be done because they are starting to be very sensitive!

Doesn't it depend on the Recession? If it is very bad...can they cover the root with bonding anyway?

yes.....i had 6 bondings done on he root area and there was
no problem at all. There was a large dark area that was ex
posed that looked horrible and after bonding all 6 teeth look
great. Also no pain and the insurance picked up part of the
bill because it is not considered cosmetic! karen

I have one tooth very bad where the molar next to it is missing. I don't think this is going to help me. How bad was your recession?

What does a large dark spot mean?

Hi Karen, I'm interested in your comment that your insurance paid for some of the cost of the bonding . I didn't know that it wasn't considered cosmetic, and had 2 teeth bonded because I had a large dark space between the teeth where the gum had receded. the bonding almost covers that, but it makes the teeth longer, and on the opposite side the gums have receeded alot so have nasty root showing, and the teeth don't match the length now on the other side , so I would like those bonded too. I'll have to check with my insurance about that!!

Re: Can Veneers or Lumineers CoverReceding Gumline?

Hello!! In answer to your question on this thread, I think my root exposure is very bad. You can see quite a large area of the root now, and the tooth comes out at an angle below it. In fact I have some recession around most of my teeth, wouldn't like anyone to look too closely!!

Re: Can Veneers or Lumineers CoverReceding Gumline?

Hi Rosie.....

It's me D. I wrote to you a couple of times. I think my tooth (my molar) is very bad on the cheeck side. What has your dentist said about the roots being so badly exposed? Do they hurt you? Mine look very yellow..... almost skelton tooth look. How much of the root is exposed? What has yoru doctor said he/she can do about it?
