Full set of crowns or veneers - Dental Health Message Board

I recently had a cosmetic consultation with a very experience dentist. My problem is I have very crooked teeth on the top and bottom in the front as well as a "buck" tooth look to me. He said we can do either a full set of crowns or veneers, he suggested the crown because they will last a little longer. I also have Periodontal problems because of all the over crowding and im nervous that the veneers will fall off over time.
Any suggestions?

Honestly if it was me, I don't think I'd want to have all crowns, but that's just totally personal preference. One of my front teeth is a crown, and it's just not the same, lol. Are you mainly just concerned about the overcrowding and crooked teeth? Have you considered braces? It just seems to me that all veneers or all crowns is such a permanent decision. Good luck!!

I have went to a few orthodontist, the problem is when I was younger I was in a car accident where my jaw was broken ( even though they said it wasn't ) and as I got older my teeth shifted..into eachother..so if I was to get braces my jaw would have to be re- broken and wired shut then braces, that is way to much for me, 2 orthodontist suggested getting cosmetic work.

Well that's understandable then. I guess if he thinks that crowns would be more long term for you than I would go with that. How many crowns would it be?? Just the front teeth??

With periodontal problems - you may want to research both a bit further. Crowns can cause bone recession over time b/c they need to be abuted closely to the gum line to prevent decay from developing and if they do not seat properly or are closely abuted to the gum line the base of the tooth will be exposed causing an appearnace of a black line or ring near the gum surface which can be unsightly. I'm not sure about the affects of vaneers though, if any. Although cost may be a factor in your decision I think you should opt for whichever requires the least amt of destruction of the natural tooth - the prepping for crowns can sometimes cause the nerve or root to become infected or die (sometimes this can happen within a few months but somtimes it can take a year or so) thus requiring a root canal - an additional cost.
