Broken Root Canal Post

Hello -

Recently one of my crowns fell off - tooth #20.

After inspecting the situation, my dentist reports the post has broken off approximately in line with the remaining tooth root. (I'm not sure, but believe the root canal and crown......one of two I have at age 56.....was done 20+ years ago by a former dentist.)

My dentist has not encountered this problem before, and was concerned about damaging the root if she were to try to remove what's left of the post.

I'm now scheduled for consultation with a root canal specialist, and am wondering if / how what remains of the post can be extracted.

Thanks for any ideas,
Bob S.

Re: Broken Root Canal Post

Of course it depends on the tooth and the dentist doing it, but my sister-in-law recently had the same thing happen and did have to undergo a procedure to remove what was left of the post and have new one done. I would go to a good endodontist.
