Have to get my tooth cleaned UNDER it! how do they do this?pls help - Dental Health Message Board

so i have a tooth with minor bone loss under it so my dentist suggested that in order to keep it to a minimum i should get it deep cleaned under my tooth! how the heck do they do this?how do they get an instrument under ur gum line and get out all the gunk without it hurting?any help pls as i go in tues to get it done and i am a bit worried.

Not to worry! It is a bit painful, but not too bad. They reach under the gum with an instrument and clean out that area. I have had a deep cleaning of my entire mouth and while uncomfortable at times, it is not awful. For one tooth it should not be a problem at all. There is very little, if any, after care such as salt water rinses etc. You will be fine. This is not bad and may help to save the tooth.

ty very much! well when it comes to pain im ok as i use no novocaine when i get fillings! not that i have a high threshhold just dont like the feeling anyways why dont they do this routinely then for everyone?wouldnt it save a lot of teeth?

The decision to deep clean has to do with the condition of your teeth and gums I think. A dentist will make that decision. I think it is being recommended more and more as a way to keep teeth healthy.
