I recently had a root canal and was unaware of the problems that may result when it comes to smoking after root canals. What are the potential problems and is there any way to counteract them without stopping smoking?
I have had many root canals and never experienced a problem with smoking, nor has my husband. We all know smoking is not a good thing to be doing, but have never had a problem with a root canal due to smoking. Maybe others can shed some light on this.
The only thing I've read related to root canals and smoking is that smoking increases your chances of needing a root canal in the future... as in if you have a cavity it will get worse quicker and may need a root canal if you smoke.
I only read that somewhere recently and don't know how much of it is true. Of course smoking isn't good for teeth, but I don't think it creates problems for root canals.
