Wow! Only $250 a tooth?

I had two of my wisdom teeth pulled out in April, and the top two pulled out this week... The prices of them were: $450, $400, $350 and $485 for the last one.
Did he pull out your tooth all in one piece, or in many pieces? Two of my teeth were pulled out in separate pieces, I didn't get any post-op x-rays. The other two were pulled out intact.
However, my roots are deformed... they're extremely long, as thin as toothpicks and curly, so when I had my 4th wisdom tooth pulled out last Thursday, a TINY piece of a root came off. I mean.. it was SO tiny, I can't believe the dentist caught it! What I think they do is examine the tooth after it's taken out, and they can tell if a piece has broken off or not. Because as soon as he popped my tooth out, I hear him go "Oh... no. One of the roots broke off."
What took less than 5 minutes originally, took another 30 minutes just to find that TINY piece of root! When he got it out and showed it to me, I couldn't believe how small it was.. and I couldn't believe how he got it out. He said if a piece of your tooth or root breaks off, it may not be a problem. Some oral surgeons will leave it in there, not wanting to chance breaking the delicate bone structure in your cheek/jaw... but my dentist didn't want to take any chances.
While my other 3 teeth came out without a problem, and stopped hurting after about 2 days... I've had to go back 3 times since last Thursday for pain in this tooth with the broken root. I'm still in extreme pain, but he says its TMJ most likely. I had a post-op x-ray taken today, but it didn't show anything. My dentist says there is a chance that a tiny piece of bone could have broken off, and if it still hurts by next week that that may be the problem.
Are you in a lot of pain still? When did you get the tooth pulled? If it's still bothering you when you go for your followup they may want to take an x-ray to check up there.. but usually they can tell once they see the tooth extracted.
