Question about chipped tooth. What procedure can be done. - Dental Health Message Board

Hi, I chipped alittle part of my tooth in the back from eating something
Its the 3rd big tooth from the back on the left side
Not the big tooth all the way in the back or the one ahead of that one.
The one in front of that.
The tooth was chipped open on the back right side, so the tooth is open where its chipped. I also have fillings on the top of the tooth, so i can see that where the chipped tooth is.
My dentist is open on Monday.
The tooth that is chipped still feels firmly in place. Its not loose.
My question is, what can they do for this.

I just spoke to someone online about this.
They told me if the tooth is not loose and still firmly in place hopely the dentist can install a crown or veneer.
I dont think bonding will work cause its to thin for the cracked area.
If the tooth was loose, then i would probably need a root canal.
I just hope i dont need a root canal.

If it's just a small chip they'll probably just do a filling, and there's probably no reason to get anything beyond that. Only get a crown if it's a big chip. And you definitely shouldn't need a root canal if there's no pain at all.

Hi you said there is a filling in the tooth already and now it
is chipped...if the filling is an old amalgam filling the dentist
can remove this and either do tooth colored onlay and that
could replace the filling and the chip.....if the chip is large
and the filling is far away from the tooth you will need a
crown....you need not spend money on a veneer when it is
that far back in your mouth......Karen
