mandibular tori removal? - Dental Health Message Board

has anyone ever been told that they have to have a mandiblar tori removed? Painful? What to expect?

I don't believe that they are migraines, but I get massive headaches from what was diagnosed as TMJ (but who knows, right?). Migraines run in my family...
I was having it removed for any 'potential' problems it could cause. I have braces on at the moment and it could cause problems for a retainer for my bottom teeth and apparently for my teeth in general later in life (so I was told by my orthodontist and dentist).I just do not want any other problems with my teeth...but I do not know if I want to have it done, I just had 3 wisdom teeth out this week and it is miserbale...

It seems strange to me that your dentist and orthodontist would recommend tori removal. I have never heard of having them removed for reasons other than dentures.

I [removed] have had orthodontics and have two, somewhat large mandibular tori. I have had no problems with them and would not think of having them removed. There are enough retainer designs nowadays, most of which do not affect, or come into contact with the mandibular tori. I might get a second opinion or just hold off on having them removed until they actually cause a problem.
