Re: Infected tooth question

well if the tooth is infected there isnt a point of having a root canal, the tooth would have to come out!

perhaps they might try a course of anti biotics to see if the infection can go,but in long run ,the tooth would probably have to come out if infected

IMO ,if it is a back tooth rather than all the expense trying to save it ,just have the tooth out,but if it is in front, maybe worth a try trying to save it
but i think you find later in the stage it have to come out which cost you money

The simple answer is it DEPENDS. A course of antibiotics will kill the infection, temporarily. Unless the ediology (the reason for the infection) is removed, the infection will continue to come back. a root canal will remove the source of the infection and be a permanent fix. But, it can be more involved that just that. Infections can come from decay or fractures. If the tooth is fractured then the root canal and a crown may not solve that problem.

It always costs more to replace a tooth that has been pulled thaN to get the root canal.
