Root canal gone wrong

I had a root canal done about four months ago and about two weeks ago the tooth began to hurt very bad. It is not sensitive to hot and cold but it just aches. I went to the dentist and he started to tap on the tooth in different spots. When he hit one spot, it really hurt. He says the root canal he did looks fine on the x-ray. He said maybe there is a crack in the tooth that he can't see on the x-ray. He pressed hard on the gum and it didn't hurt. I had a similar problem on another tooth with a different dentist and it went on for years and I ended up losing the tooth. I really don't want to lose this tooth. It hasn't been crowned yet. The dentist gave me a 7 day course of antibiotics and it helped but I can still feel a little pain. Should I go to another dentist for another opinion?

Re: Root canal gone wrong

Have you seen an endodontist? Endodontists specialize in root canals.

If you have not been to one, that is where you should go. You should also have them do your root canals.

Re: Root canal gone wrong

Hi,
I'm kind of in a similar situation - the tooth aches - but its not unbearable - jsut sore..in fact I have three root canals and they all feel the same way.
Had a question for you - for the tooth that got extarcted fianlly - how long did you put up with the pain before deciding to take the tooth out? Also, once it was extarcted - did they actually find a crack or diagnose the problem? Also, what did yoiu do to replace the tooth - bridge/implant?
Would really appreciate your reply - I really don't know what to do with these root canals..
