I had a dental abscess of the upper left molar in november 2006, this was treated with antibiotics, infection seemed to linger then had a root canal in the January of 2007, followed by more antibiotics at the beginning of Feb 07 which only relieved symptoms, then had the tooth extracted at the end of Feb. When I had the tooth extracted the elevated body temperature and night sweats stopped (my temperature turned to my normal 36.1 degrees C from 37.1 when I had the infection).
Now 10 months later I developed insomnia from a drug called ciprofloxacin for suspected UTI. Since the insomnia I have had a pressure feeling near the area where the tooth was extracted, but I have no fever and pain is only minimal and transient. Upon examining the area the gum doesn't look inflamed but can at times be slightly sensitive when I brush along the area. The pressure has been there for just over a week now, at first I though maybe I just brushed too hard or the gum is still sensitive?
I'm taking into account the possibility of some infection still being there because I had the dental infection for over 4 months before the tooth was extracted.
Do you think there is a possibility of Maxilla Osteomyelitis or would I be in far more pain and it would be obvious by looking at the area? Like redness, swelling, warmth, fever etc... of which I don't seem to have.
I asked my dentist about it but he just dismissed it has nothing... Seems unwilling to investigate it or even do a simple x ray!
sorry no help. I've a infection- 3 abcesses in my bone too around the tooth roots and its calming down under antibitoics..14 days now of amoxycillin +Clav.
I am scheduled for a root canal but I still fell pain in my tooth..its under a crown with no holes, and whats worse is I didnt need the crown, I went in for an amalgam, replacement on a one sided hole, the tooth was fine.. the dentists just thought it was a strange shape and gave me a huge flat corwn on my upper molar (6 I think) instead. It doesnt fit so I think the jarring may have caused nerve death (too short on outside, stright on top of nerve, a cerec) and too long on inside. Now I have developed TMJ. I've had the crwon for 12 mths now, but m,y jaw was num for 6 mths due to an accident so it could have been infected all the time.
Just wondering if you got any better or found out anything?
You hekped me with your temps.they are identical to what mine have been since a few weeks after the acident. I think the poorly shaped crown staight on my nerve was whacked when my jaw was slammed shut.. andthis affected the pulp or nerve, but it is settling down with antibitoics..well the intensity has gone. I had the same temps you are talking of, but I thought the shaking was from shock for a few months, then put down strange temps to menopause, and I've been on pain killers as well most of the time so the aspirin, panaoddol etc kept the temp down.
I have been wondering what sort of temp one gets with infections inside the jaw bone.. npothing shows on the outside at all, no holes, cracks, nothing under CT scan or OPG, but the 3 darkened areas showed under tooth xrays..which I went to an endodontist to get after 3 dentists told me I'm fine..
anyways, how did you go?
I recently have been through similar problems, it started with a simply root plaining procedure. About a month later I started experiencing sever ttooth pain, long story short and 9 teeth pulled later, I was sent to a dentist that my MD recommended. Within a half an hour later after az x-ray, he sent me to a specialist who confirmed that I had a serious bone infection in my jaw. He scheduled surgery on a Saturday, because he said it was so bad. I am still having problems with the teeth next to where he did the surgery. But i go again on Friday to have another x-ray to see if the infection has spreed.
This has been the worst nightmare of my life. One of the oral surgeons that removed my teeth told my husband that I should see a psychitrist because there was just nothing wrong with me. That was 3 day prior to my visit to the specialist. See, never stop asking questions. If your body hurts, most likly there is something going on. jew1195
thanks, I sure hope you are going better now.
I had a root canal and the endo found 3 cracked teeth arfound that one.
Thwe tooth has not setlled as yet but the extremne shooting nerve pain has gone. I also has my two fron teeth that were chipped filled and gradually the pain ther settle4d, and i was on antibiotics for about 6 weeks.amoxycillin and then doxycycliune. i'vwe had the antibiotic replaced in my root canla ttoh 4 times so far and each time it settles for a while and then hurts again.
The antibiotics did really calm the pain down, but I'nm still on pain killers. just the exptere pain has abated and I really do feel better in myself. I did feel just like I had a body infection beofe but only a very slightly raised temoperature. Bothe my hop and jaw pain decreased a real lot on the antibiotics but this was not believed by the docs. As long as the pain went I reckon.
I sure hope again things are better for you.
