Didn't expect this

My son was in dental sedation for 5 hrs the great thing is he doesn't remember anything but the after effects were what he has had problems with, really bad headache for 2 1/2 hrs at one one point he was holding his head, also this morning the back of his throat the uvula must be swollen every time he talks or breathes through his mouth he feels like he is going to gag, anyone experienced anything like this? he has to go back again in a month for another 6 hrs and I am a bit concerned about the after effects
Thanks
