Explain procedure (stm tx) please

Hello all,
New patient at dentist office. Office in many states. So they gave several free xrays. I got a tooth removed took long, really hard to remove. Got gum stitched. Anyway they gave me a complete work up. Telling me what could be done to my big mouth. Big money but agree with work up. But again can't afford that unless I do little by little and take a few years.
The big question I have for you all. I only understand It a little. What Is (stm tx). Has to do with extensive cleaning and such. Looks like It takes up about little over 400 dollars of my whole workup plan. Thanks for any input. Jim

Re: Explain procedure (stm tx) please

STM is Soft Tissue management. This deals with treating the gums, scaling and root planing or a deep cleaning. This means you have bacteria that is far beneath the gum tissue that cannot be removed by a regualr above the gums cleaning. Leaving this infected tissue in place will cause permanent bone loss and eventual loss of teeth. It is the foundation of the rest of your dental treatment and is the first step in getting a health mouth. Gum disease/periodontal disease cannot be cured but is very treatable with a deep cleaning, frequent maintenance cleanings and good home care.
