I don't think that waiting a few more days to have this looked at will mean life or death for this tooth; however the pain might keep you uncomfortable longer than you'd like.
Did this tooth have a root canal before the crown was placed? If not, it's possible that infection has gone into the nerve. It'd be nice if a dentist could take an X-Ray today and at least look at it, so if you need antibiotics, you could get on them.
Bridges aren't the only option for missing teeth. Titanium implants are generally better in that the adjoining teeth don't have to be filed down for the bridge.
