I have had two root canals done, by my dentist. recently, he has been seeming irritated and grumpy, he has even sworn a few times. he has back pain, and I am beginning to wonder if hes on pain meds, in that case, I do not want him near my teeth!!, he is usually joking around kind of guy, puts my dental fears to rest. also, his prices seemed to sky rocket. I am thinking of switching, my question is kind of about money. he charged me 700 dollars for the initial root canal,-per tooth ( its a tooth that only needs one root< so it is a little cheaper) and them sent me back in to get the post in, that was yet another 380 dollars. then if I get a crown, thats is 950 a piece. I am curious about this- do most dentists, and endodontists ( spelling?) make you get the post as a separate visit and price? I thought they just do it at the same time as the root canal. he called it a "core and post" , so my bill was like 1500 dollars!!! I know I have another tooth that is needing a root canal as well, so this is a huge deciding factor before I go back to him, as well as his attitude, and we have no dental insurance, so money is definitely an issue, thanks to all of you!!!
anybody please!!! Im sorry to be a pest, but I just need to know if it is normal for them to do the first part of the root canal, and then have you come back for the post at a later date? I need to know if Im being scammed just so he can have another excuse to charge me. thanks to anyone who helps me!!!!!
thanks so much!!! I was totally thinking that normally didnt happen,. I have a friend who went to an endontist and they did everything at the same time for him, so I thought I was getting jerked around. as for going to mexico? that would cost more than the root canal, and no way would I let them near my teeth! Ive seen too many tv shows about that stuff!LOL thanks again!!
i had a tooth posted and crowned then when it still hurt they did a root canal thru the crown for a total of $2100. five years later i have just finished a crown and post with no root canal for $1258 total. the post, single xray and prep was around $280 billed seperately from the crown. so your bill seems normal to me. my regular dentist does the core post and he refers the root canals to a specialist.
I went to an endodontist for my root canal just two weeks ago. It was a molar with four canals and the cost was $1036. I'm getting the crown tomorrow, which costs $950. I didn't need a post, so I can't help you with that one.
I can't believe I've spent so much money on one tooth. What really aggravates me is that there wasn't a cavity in the tooth, but it was abscessed (thankfully without pain). My dentist suspects I'm grinding my teeth in my sleep, which caused the abscess, but he doesn't know for sure. I floss, get my teeth cleaned, and try to do all of those preventative things to keep from having problems, and it didn't do a bit of good.
The one positive thing I can say is that the root canal was not bad at all. The dam was the most uncomfortable part, but I've had zero pain except for the jaw stiffness I experienced the next day. It wasn't really painful, just sore.
