soreness around my gums after extraction for how long?

I had my molar pulled Tuesday 4 days ago, there is soreness around my gums. Its not really sore anymore in the socket, it's the gum on the outter that is slightly swollen and just tender enough to just bother me and or keep me edgie. It's my molar on the bottom in the middle. IS this normal, I am afraid to call my dentist on a Saturday, but is it normal for the swelling and soreness in the outter gum area?If So, for how long? Thank You, **Julie**

It's not abnormal for there to be some swelling a few days after an extraction, as long as you haven't gotten an infection. Rinse gently with warm salty water, and take something for the pain and call your dentist.

Re: soreness around my gums after extraction for how long?

Hi Julie it's quite normal to have soreness and sensitivity for a few days after an extraction. I had the same thing for 8-9 days. you shouldn't worry about it, but give your doctor a call if it makes you feel better!
besides warm water and salt you could also try washing with chamomile at room temperature.

Take care

Thank You so much for your reply! I'm going to call the doc today and see if he can look at it, I know it's not dry socket, it's the gumline that is swollen and sore...
Thanks again,

Re: soreness around my gums after extraction for how long?

Hi, well I have a infection, . According to the dentist the abcess I had >prior< to the extracion I guess didn't heal up. He thought he pressed all the infection out when he pulled the tooth... Yuuuuk huh..... So he put me on heavy duty antibiotic (Augmentin). Should start feeling better tomorrow..
Thanks again for your support!!!
