Treatment Or Extraction? - Dental Health Message Board

24 year old male came with an old amalgam filing in the lower right first molar. After i made an X-RAY i concluded that the tooth was repaired poorly - the cavity was deep to the pulp but there was none endodontic treatment. I opened the cavity and began endodontic treatment. After the third visit i did another X-RAY and i concluded that there was a granuloma on the mesial root. I closed the cavity with temporary filing, and sugested him to take antibiothics. The next day the patient came with sweling on the mandibulae in the first molar region and big pain wich is very odd because the pulp was extracted. I asked few dentists and oral surgents for opinion and they all said that it needs extraction. I am sure i can save this tooth but i'm not sure just how to do it and should i wait and see what happens to the swelling and granuloma or go and do the extraction.
I ask for your oppinion.

my dentist said, there are some patients who have really bad teeth that seem to need an extraction (he mentioned the client with a cracked tooth, may be split tooth)... he still saved the tooth because the patient requested it. but he made no guarantees that it will last... im no dentist... but i suggest, save the tooth!!! make a root canal or something. as long as the bone surrounding the tooth is healthy, at least, the tooth has something to hold on too...
