Needing urgent advice - Dental Health Message Board

I have just had a tooth extracted but the dentist was quiet rough, he also pulled out some of my jaw bone with the tooth.
I now have a giant hole in my mouth and wasn't given antibiotics for it, I have 4 or 5 stitches in my gums and am still in considerable pain.
I am wondering if anyone else has had there jaw ripped out with their teeth or if this dentist was just way too rough?
I can't afford to go to another dentist for a second opinion as I am a single mother of 2 children, any advice would be great, thanks

i would suggest you go to your hospital ,im sure they be able to help you

no dentist should be rough with you ,there isnt any need to cause you pain ,while having extractions
its a shame because there are a few dentists out there that are good and these bad ones slur the good one's

its all money orientated now ,sadly and not many are out to care for patients
i had a brilliant dentist when i was younger ,he was forced to retire early ,as others came into his practice,and didnt like how long he was taking with each patient shame as my dentist then was a genuine caring dentist and cared about his patients

As suggested go to an emergency room and tell them what your dentist did...they have to treat you regardless of money. I would expect they should at the very least take an x-ray of your jaw. If any of your jaw was ripped out you would certainly know it but perhaps just the roughness of it caused too much irritation and you would be correct that you prob should be on an antibiotic and pain medicines. If you have something over the counter at home try it as things like Ibuprofen are actually very good with oral pains unless you develop an infection then you would need something a bit stronger. sorry for your situation.

I agree with the last two posts...I just want to also suggest washing your mouth with warm saltwater periodically, as well. I was told to do that after tooth extractions...starting after 24 hours though.

I also agree that there should have been an xray taken to determine the damage. Make sure you get furthur care as quickly as possible especially if you happen to develop furthur symptoms...i.e. if the pain at the site gets much worse or if you start to have a fever. Keep in touch with us, ok? I hope you heal quickly.

Don't know if your dentist was particularly "rough" on you or not. That's highly subjective. You didn't say you were in pain during the extraction so you must've been sufficiently anesthetized for the procedure. A tooth can be ankylosed (fused to the bone) and thus part of the bone can be removed along with the tooth during extraction. This shoud've been disclosed in your consent form. Pain following most extractions can be managed with OTC analgesics. Antibiotics are not always prescribed even after surgical, open flap type of extractions. It all depends on the circumstances. Followup care should be included in the extraction so if there is a disruption in healing or infection ask the dentist.
