Inflammation after crown prep?

Had 2 teeth worked on yesterday that already had temp crowns...but needed more prep for permanents....HOWEVER--Now I seem to be quite inflammed and sore...and wondering if perhaps I have a problem with the novacaine injection or just the injection needle site??? Before the last few years of major dental problems, I never took novacain
Are there different types of novacain? anyone have this issue?

Re: Inflammation after crown prep?

Many people say "novocaine" to mean any kind of local anesthetic. Actually Novocaine has not been used in dentistry for many years. Dentists use Lidocaine, Mepivicaine, Articaine, Carbocaine, and several other local anesthetics. Sounds like your gums are sore from the actual work done in prepping for the crowns. The dentist has to work right next to or slightly under the gums and they get pretty scuffed up. You could also have muscle soreness from the needle piercing the muscle tissue. Hope you're feeling better by now.
