oral surgeon removed cyst in gum didnt do ApicoEctomy

oral surgeon removed cyst in gum didnt do ApicoEctomy.I had a cyst in my upper gum, and it made a infected bubble under the roof of my mouth the pain was torture. I got surgery to remove the cyst but my roots are the problem

After surgery last oct 2007 ive had numerous infections since. I went back to him to see what can be done and he told me i need surgery again and go get another opinion from a different oral surgeon.

I went today this surgeon said he should have done an ApicoEctomy then, He didnt so now he wants to do it and remove the new cyst. Has anyone had this happen?

any suggestions?

Thanks Jo Ellen

Did your oral surgeon charge you for an apicoectomy. Or just a removal of the cyst? I had a apicoecctomy done and when he was doing it he found a cyst and removed that also. I did not pay any more than what he quoted me to start with. You shouldn't be paying twice for a procedure that should of been done right the first time. Misty

The other surgeon did tell me my roots needed to be cleaned out but didnt do it just removed the cyst. Then after constant pain since surgery now he says you need to have the roots cleaned. I now have to pay another surgeon to do it right. It really is not fair i went through all that with the first surgoen then he tells me to go for another opinion to another oral surgeon
I am reading these posts and am now afraid to have the apiececctomy done.
I see many complications could arise.
My teeth arent bad they are my top teeth number 9, 10 and 11 i do have to option to pull them and get a partial and i am deciding what to do now
I hate to loose my teeth but this surgeon said i have a 50-50 chance
of it working
thanks Jo Ellen

I had 4 apiecectomys done by my oral surgeon. I only lost one out of the 4. Your dentist is right. Sometimes they don't work. When I called and asked the office what the difference is between an oral surgeon and an endodontist, she said none.... That an oral surgeon can do a apiecectomy just as well and more than an endodontist. But they don't do root canals. Either way both doctors are good. I choose to go to my oral surgeon to have this done. I have been going to this doctor for years and absolutely love him. He is praised by all other dentists for his work and a very warm, caring person. Not like some that have a bad attitude. No use for them. It's hard to say what you should do. If this surgery doesen't work for you then you will be putting more money out for the partials. And this is something you won't know till its done. If it were me I would look into getting an implant done. If you can afford it. But by the time you try the surgury and if this doesen't work and then pay for partials you could have something that will last a lifetime and look great. I just had an implant done by my oral surgeon and I love it. I'm done with root canals and bridges. To a dentist its just a gift thats keeps on giving. Any more work that needs to be done in my mouth is going to be implants only. You will save alot more money in a longrun. Misty
