Question T or F? Overbite = crooked lower teeth

True or False: a mild overbite causes the lower teeth to become more crowded and crooked until the overbite is corrected.

I took my 11yo daughter in to see an orthodontist because her bottom teeth are starting to turn and crowd in. She has had straight teeth until recently so the problem is very mild. At the visit, the dr. pointed out an overbite (though I'm not convinced) and told us that is the reason her lower teeth are turning. If we do not correct the overbite the teeth will continue to turn. Is this true?

I thought she would just need a retainer, or even just braces on her lower teeth to straighten them out a bit, but now she needs $4400 worth of top and bottom braces to straighten her teeth and correct her (unnoticeable) overbite......?

I can post a picture if needed.

Re: T or F? Overbite = crooked lower teeth

Can anyone help us? We are scheduled to move forward with braces next month, and we are wavering back and forth on what to do. We aren't convinced that a mild overbite causes the bottom teeth to become crooked...

I can't accurately answer your question, but I'd encourage you to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other orthodontists if you're questioning the reccommendation.
