Radiolucency? - Dental Health Message Board

Hey guys I am new here,and have a question? I recently went to my local dentist with a horriable tooth ache. After being x rayed . I was told I had an abscess on tooth #30, and a radiolucency on the jaw bone between # 29 and #30, Do any of you have any experience or info on radioluceny? I have an appointment with an oral surgeon on Monday.

A radiolucency just means a dark spot on the xray. In your case, that radiolucency means the infection has entered the bone below the tooth and started eating a hole in the bone, which causes it to appear less dense or darker on the film. When they remove the infection the bone will fill back in over a period of 6-12 months and the radiolucency will go away.
