That would depend on how deep into the dentin you are. If you still have a lot of dentin remaining, your tooth does have the ability to insulate itself over time. Dentin is like a sponge, with many holes and tunnels through it, if in danger, the pulp tissue will start to block off these holes to protect itself. However, if there is not much dentin between the nerve and surface, you may start to get increasing sensitivity which will eventually kill the nerve. The length of time would completely depend on your body's oral factors and the severity of the exposure.
