What is going on with my tooth

I've had this thing worked on for the third time, and it still tingles.

My lower left molar #18 had quite a large cavity wich needed a filling. Got it filled the first time last year, and had a bit of a tough time chewing with it, but there was basicly no sensitivty, hot or cold.

Had it redone for the second time 4 months ago, which this time it seemed fine for a week but then i had a hard time chewing again, and then it got really sensitve a month ago to anything hot.

Just went in this week for a medicated filling, and the sensitivty seemed to go away, but i still cant seem to chew with it. Have noticed though while flossing, it feels like the floss is rubbing up aganst the nurve.

They did tell me that the filling was a little large, and is close to the nurve. But wanted to try a mediceted filling to see if the tooth will settle down, and redid the tooth for free.

The tooth is'nt sensitive to hot or cold now, i just still feel that tingle when i chew.

Re: What is going on with my tooth

First, I am glad to see you have a dentist that takes enough pride in his work to redo things for free.

Now, what your consistant problem seems to be is your bite being a little off. What has basically happened over time is the bone has become bruised by having you hit harder on that tooth than the others around it. This will heal, but bone heals slowly, so it may take a while. Best thing to do is try to eat on the other side for a week or two and slowly start using the sore side. Think of it as physical therapy for your jaw, it just needs a break, and then to be slowly worked back up to normal.

A lack of sensitivity to hot/cold means a healthy nerve, so no need for a root canal. Just give it time and see what happens after the bone settles down.

Re: What is going on with my tooth

Yeah the tooth is one of 6 fillings that i needed to have filled, and the only one thats giving me any trouble, the rest are real champs, no sensitivity to hot or cold or anything except #18 molar.

Infact now that i think of it, the tooth kind of the same way even before i went in to get it filled the first time.

Maybe the bone is bruised because of my grinding my teeth at night, or even threw the day, because i've formed a habit of pressing my teeth together.

But in any event, the tooth did feel as if it started to settle a bunch before i went in for the midicated filling, ans almost did'nt go to have it work on the third time.

But i do plan on doing adult braces hopefully this year, or maybe next, if i can ever get my start up money put away!

Re: What is going on with my tooth

I know you probably trust your dentist and you are happy with his job, but sometimes it's better to get an advice from someone else. Especially that, as you said, you were coming back with the same tooth couple of times. Have you ever considered flying to Poland to have you teeth fixed? Friend of mine told me about this program Medical Travel ( * removed * ) where you can travel to Poland and be looked after by some of the best dentists in Poland for up to 30% less compare to UK. He had some implants done over there and he is very happy with job their done. He said that standards in the Clinic were outstanding and they looked after him from the moment he stepped of the plane (organising hotel, giving advice on what is worth to see in a city ect.). * removed * I’m flying over next week myself!

Re: What is going on with my tooth

I think i'll wait before i board a plain to Poland

Been do'in a lot of reading, and it seems as though, since i dont have any swelling, puss, or anyother problems that indecate a possible root canal.

I believe that it might do ok this time, because the dentist took care of any high spots this time around.

It might be as Stribe said, a bruised bone, or a possible high spot from the second filling that i had, but it does'nt ache anymore, and seems to have very little to no sensitivity like before.
