Broken crown and post - Dental Health Message Board

I got a root canal and crown work done on my fifth teeth { top right in 2005},The crown broke along with the post in 2007 . It was re-cemented 3 to 4 times since then . The last time I got it cemented was in March 2009. It came apart again. The post on it is very small. He charges me $75.00 each time to re-cement it. My dentist said that it would cost me $3000 to implant a post. Any suggestion on what to do is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.I am a mother of three and don't have that kind of money.

Well, I am in the same boat. I had to have mine pulled and now looking at a bridge.

That sure seems like a lot of money. If you ask the dentist what the code is for this service(all dental services have a number or letter code associated with them), I could look online and see what my company allows for this service. You also might want to look into dental insurance. It's usually pretty cheap. Mine is $19.95 a month and I save anywhere from 50% to 80%on services

I noticed you live in Chapel Hill, NC. UNC has one of the best dental schools anywhere. If you haven't already done so, you could contact the university's dental program to see if there is a program available to treat the public. Many times schools have teaching clinics which are not as expensive as your dentist.
