Hi there. I'm not too concerned about the bumps you describe. A lot of times this can be due to little pieces of bone trying to work themselves out. You may even start to notice some sharp spots. If this happens, see your dentist and have him/her remove them (a very easy procedure, don't worry). If the bumps you speak of become *****, or increasingly swollen and painful, see your dentist. Are you rinsing with anything? Warm salt water or a prescription rinse called peridex are great to rinse with. I agree with your dentist that the best denture for you will be after healing. The gum tissue changes a lot over the healing period, so you're more likely to get a better fit if you wait. Good luck, and hang in there!
