Having silver mercury fillings replaced with white fillings

I am getting ready to have all my silver fillings replaced with white ones. Any advice? Is it safe? And is it a good idea? Thanks for any replies!

My grandmother told me 40+ years ago to never get silver fillings. I was a child at that time and I really had no say in the matter. She didn't tell me why and I never thought to ask her. I read in one of Kevin Trudeau's "Natural
Cures" books that silver fillings are bad for you but I don't remember the reason he gave. I can imagine how having a metal in your tooth for many years could somehow be unhealthy. I wish I could have mine replaced for what it's worth. That's all I can say on the subject.

Re: Having silver mercury fillings replaced with white fillings

The US Food & Drug Administration has stated that dental amalgam is safe so that should be good enough for anyone. This is a very pernickety organisation so you can have confidence in their advice.
However if you need to have fillings replaced or need new ones, composite resin is now as wear resistant as amalgam and can be bonded onto tooth substance, so go ahead.
But if your dentist says your fillings are poisoning you, go elsewhere; he is a shyster and a charlatan.

You cannot always trust the FDA and I have seen evidence of that!
