Over the last 3 weeks I have been dealing with some unusual throat pain. At the start I had a slight sore throat which turned into pretty intense pain when eating and drinking, when I would drink something cold it would burn and sting..my throat pain was the ONLY symptom. After this continued for a couple days it was time to visit the doctor which stated it was a virus running its course but things only slightly improved. Also went to a ENT doctor who checked my throat with a camera and stated that I had some minor swelling of the epiglottis and a spot that resembled a small ulcer. He told me to wait a little longer if I wanted then he would prescribe antibiotics if things dont improve at all.
My throat is still slightly scratchy and have developed a couple small red spots on the roof of my mouth with a SMALL white center, I do have a history of canker sores and have had quite a bit lately as well but never on the roof of my mouth. When i swallow it feels as if my throat is extremely dry and a slight pain from one of the red spots.
Just wanted to get some opinions before starting antibiotics for a possible viral infection that they would not treat and I try to avoid antibiotics unless absolutely needed. I have no fever, strep test negative and had HIV/STD test about 6 months ago which was negative and still with the same girlfriend.
Thanks for any opinions,
