how fast can a tooth decay under a crown. Mine appears to have gotten bad enough in one year that I may have to get an implant for that tooth.

hi...a crown should last at least 10 to 15 yrs if done corectly and you practice good oral hygeine...also i would get 2nd opinion and before you get an implant or any major dental work done i suggest you look up trigeminal neuralgia ...its severe nerve damage ...i got it from my dentist and its the worst pain known to man ...dentist never told me it is a possibility when they do any work in your mouth ...please for your sake 2nd maybe 3rd opinion...goodluck

If the crown doesn't fit correctly food and bacteria can get trapped under it and it can decay pretty quickly. I just had a tooth under a bridge decay, had to have a root canal and a post made and to tell you the truth I don't think it's quite right because it feels uncomfortable. The only way you will know if it's decayed is if the dentist removes the crown to check or if your crown is loose. Suzy
