Root canal tooth split in half

Two months ago I had a root canal on my bottom right molar (#30) & was advised by the endodontist to get a crown ..I had planned to get the crown this month however while i was eating this morning i felt some thing crack. the outer portion of the my tooth is very loose (i can actually move it with my finger ) and it feels like the whole tooth is going to come out. The cement like filling part is on the otherside of the tooth .. Will I have to get this tooth extracted? & Can I wait until Monday? so far im not in any pain..

Re: Root canal tooth split in half

Assuming the tooth did not break or fracture below the gum line and that only part or one side of the tooth above the gum line broke off you just may have saved the dentist a lot of filing that would have been done to prep the tooth for a crown. If no real damage was done to the tooth and the roots themselves are still intergrated with the bone and have not been absorbed, a tiny metal post can be cemented into the tooth to help the crown stay on in the event that too much tooth structure was lost. You should be OK until Monday in terms of seeing your dentist but try not to disturb the tooth further until then if you can. An x-ray will help determine whether the tooth needs to be extracted or not.
