Assuming the tooth did not break or fracture below the gum line and that only part or one side of the tooth above the gum line broke off you just may have saved the dentist a lot of filing that would have been done to prep the tooth for a crown. If no real damage was done to the tooth and the roots themselves are still intergrated with the bone and have not been absorbed, a tiny metal post can be cemented into the tooth to help the crown stay on in the event that too much tooth structure was lost. You should be OK until Monday in terms of seeing your dentist but try not to disturb the tooth further until then if you can. An x-ray will help determine whether the tooth needs to be extracted or not.
